weekend eats

I can’t believe the weekend’s flown by already! And I spent it just eating and eating, haha – not good, not good at all. It’s already Tuesday and I STILL feel bloated :D

On Sunday, for the first time in aaaages I went for actual BREAKFAST! It was kinda almost 12pm, but whatever, I woke up at 10, which is like 3 whole hours earlier than normal, so I think I deserve a pat on the back! Me, Erwin, Suvs and Ee met up with Dahbuu and his new squeeze at Mart 130.

Mart 130 is a quaint little place – all bright and airy and squishy (as in, lots of bodies crammed into one space!) as many top notch Melbourne spots are. Do you guys notice that a lot of Melbie’s most popular places are all usually really small and crammed into dodgy lanes? Well Mart 130 is on a TRAM LINE (Mart – Tram spelt backwards, and stop 130, so you could technically tram, there, get off at stop 130 and have brekkie, heh). Needless to say, we didn’t tram lahhh…I puttered around picking everyone up in my underused (but very loved!) car. Digressing – why do people get surprised when they hear that I drove? Is it THAT unfathomable? Pouf.

I had the organic scrambled eggs with sourdough and bacon. It was oookayyy – it’s not the best breakfast I’ve ever had, but it was good enough. I guess I was expecting more because of all the hype. Having said that, the atmosphere was great and at least now I can say I’ve had gourmet breakfast on a tram track :P

The Corn Fritters, which are supposedly really good, but none of us ordered it, haha! This very gorgeous picture courtesy of Totally Addicted to Taste.

Pancakes with Vanilla and Marscapone – looks amazing, but again, we didn’t order this! My stomach wasn’t even awake, so I couldn’t even finish my eggs and bacon – don’t think I could’ve handled this pancake stack. Once again, I’ve used a picture from Totally Addicted to Taste.

We were all completely stuffed after that, but because it was so bloody early and we had the rest of the day to kill, me, Suvs and Erwin traipsed down to Brunswick, where we pottered around the mishmash of shops. I bought some amazing custom blended beans from Jasper’s (MUST go there if you’re ever feeling depressed – they have buckets and BUCKETS of different coffee beans all stacked to the ceiling and it smells like you’ve died and gone to coffee heaven!) and we stuck our fingers into everything in Klein’s Apothecary. How could we not? So many interesting perfumes, bath and body stuff and nice-smelling things in big glass jars!

Of course, when you have nothing to do, it’s all about food, so we capped off our Brunswick outing with an AMAZING lemon tart at Babka. OMG. The hype says it’s the best lemon tart in Melbourne, and they were so not wrong – it’s the best lemon tart I’ve ever had, period! Ahhhh I’m getting cravings just thinking about it – must go back!

On Saturday, me and the Penguin went to Idibidi in Fitzroy for dinner, followed by dessert (Belgian Spoil for two!) at Koko Black. I miss my Belgian Spoil!

On Friday, me and Suvs bailed out of clubbing at Se7en to go rampaging around the city for yummy cocktails, wine and tapas (and good company, of course, of course). Melbourne is never short of interesting bars and lounges to hit up, so thus far we’ve been to a different ones every week! Friday’s standout was Hairy Canary – we ordered handmade chorizo, and were recommended some red wine which went really well with it! And when Winnypoo joined us, we ordered molten chocolate cake with pistachio ice cream, and I got an extra glass of riesling to go with – YUM! (I know realize that I can never start a food blog because I’ve already run out of adjectives to describe good food, haha)

Oookay! Whew! That' was kinda long. Am going to run off for dinner now (more food! I kinda feel full just from blogging about  my weekend, dunno how I’m going to eat!)

LOL.

Okay, I know the last thing many of you would want to watch would be a makeup video. But this one is hilarious and only 4 minutes long! So watch it! And if you know anyone who puts on tragic makeup like this, you might wanna do her/(him?) a favour and pass it on :P

(I KNOW some of you are going to send this video to me, you mothereffers! Hahaha!)

it’s official.

I’ve finally decided to take the leap and go to China!!

It might not seem like a big deal to some, but this is a huge decision for me – being alone in a huge country with absolutely zero grasp of the language is craptastically daunting! (well ok, I won’t be alone, technically, me and Terri are going together – and my brother is coming too – so it’s going to be so much fun!) But it’s something I’ve always wanted to do, and I’ll take this year’s recession as a sign that it’s now or never. So I’ll be off in Beijing for two months learning Chinese, making new friends and traipsing around China starting June 25!

Right now, I’m going through the application process, which is tricky because the application form is all in badly-worded English and they don’t do online payments (or cheque, or credit card for that matter – dodgy!) which means I have to get my booty over to the bank to ask for a TT – and the addresses provided were so dodge that initially my bank refused to do it for me! Cue panicked phone calls to my dad in KL, messages to Terri in London, and a long distance phone call to Lyn in Beijing (lol I am so international, no?). It should be all resolved now – I just hope the bloody money went through (0.0)

Thunderbird, Gtalk and Skype are now my new best friends because I have to liaise with Terri about application, accommodation, logistics, and all that good stuff. Thankfully we’ll be back in KL at around the same time, so amidst painting the town red we’ll be able to shop for whatever we need – although I’m pretty sure I’ll be indulging in LOTS of shopping in Beijing :D I’m already under orders from Suvs to bring her back the fakest-looking LV goods I can find (because, that’s what China is most famous for, innit? :P)

I’m sooo excited about this! I can’t wait to get there and start meeting new people and exploring new places together! Oh, and of course, learning Chinese, which is DEFINITELY at the top of the list, heh :P

Oooh, by the way, if you follow me on Twitter you’ll know I went to Cirque du Soleil – it was AMAZING. Just simply brilliant – they take the concept of a circus to a whole new level. Not to mention the feeling of sitting in a big top – it made me feel like a little kid all over again! :D Everyone should go see Cirque du Soleil at least once in their lives! My dad went to see it in Vegas – lucky poof! I would’ve totally forgotten to blog about it if not for Facebook picture tagging, haha!

cirque du soleil

Me and May. I couldn’t resist and indulged in buying the Cirque du Soleil notebook as a souvenir! Which proved to be a mistake as I had to tote it around with me later at clubbing!

Slices of my life

I have sooo not been taking pictures of anything lately. I dunno, no motivation to bring my camera around and make people pose for pictures. But the past week has been more of same, really. Lots of drinking and hanging out and chillaaaaaxinnnnn.

~~~
Last night we went bar crawling, and ended up at Manchuria. By the way, if any of you are ever there, there’s this corner area that’s enshrouded with curtains and looks awesomely cool? That’s MY corner. Yep. You can’t sit there. Only me and my posse. Haha!
~~~

Me and Auggie had Zombies. I wasn’t going to order it at first, but the bartender was making one for the person before me, and it looked really cool – a LOT of different alcohols were going into the same cup, so you know I had to try it! Speaking of which, I suppose I must concede that one area where Melbourne trumps KL is the bartenders – they’re all so snazzily dressed and they do cool cocktail-shaking tricks!

Whoo, talk about getting sidetracked. Anyway, the Zombie is apparently a mixture of five different rums? With absinthe? Or something like that. And they’re only allowed to sell two per person per night. Which means it had to be strong, right? But I downed one no prob. I could still walk straight (but I was admittedly quite happy after that :P)

~~~
Job hunting is going alright I suppose. I’m starting to learn that life isn’t fair. It seems like a simple fact to many, but as someone who has always practiced fairness in everything I do, the thought of others being unfair to me and not being able to do anything about it kinda frustrates me. But at the end of the day, all you can do is stay positive so that’s what I’m gonna do :D Good things come to those who wait!
~~~

My Chanel bag is in store! The lovely sales associate called me yesterday morning to tell me. But it’s supposed to be a getting-my-first-job reward to myself, so I’m being very disciplined and not buying it! Not yet! I’m a poor, broke, unemployed person! ….who just spend $200 today on a coffee grinder, heh! BUT in all fairness I needed a better grinder to make proper coffee! Now I can make lattes and cappuccinos for everyone! :D

~~~
Just realized I never posted pictures of my graduation! Here’s a photo of the family!
As promised, I've been on a clubbing break lately
Well actually, I did go to Seven one more time after I promised I wouldn't anymore. But it was fun! We set mini missions for ourselves - eg mine was to hit on a girl, Aug's and Kai's was to hit on girls of my/our choosing, and Suvs' was to score five free drinks. I think I was the only one who was successful, but some jealous biatches might beg to differ :P
Anyhoo! It was a fun night - clubbing is always fun! But I think I need a break from it for a while - I much prefer going to a pub or a bar right now. I went to Canary Club and 1806 for the first time on Friday night - omagah! Sangria and the roast pork belly tapas at CC are to DIE FOR! And we always meet fun people! I think all this drinking is making me gain so much weight though, urghhhhh...
Okay that was just my random little update - no pics as I haven't been lugging my camera around - my bag seems to be getting heavier all the time although I haven't been adding anything in? Curiouser and curiouser....speaking of which I have a total lemming for a new camera, but my financial situation right now kind of squashes that dream :(
Folks, I simply cannot state how much I wish I were earning my own money. Strangely enough, lately I've been talking to a lot of people who hate their jobs and feel unsatisfied with their lives but can't/won't leave because they wouldn't know what to do otherwise or are afraid to make such a drastic change....I can't empathize all that much because at this point in my life, I would gladly do mind-numbing work as long as it paid me decently. But it's made me wonder - when I do finally get a job and reach that crossroads in my life - what do I actually want to do? Open a restaurant? Start my own business? If so, what business? It's easy enough to say "oh just look for a gap in the market" but in practice, that ain't easy to do.
Hmmm. All these grown up questions! This is what happens when I blog in the wee hours.
Off to bed! Hugs, kisses!
