magic

My brother was scoffing at people who watch Taiwanese idol dramas.

"Why would you want to watch that sort of show? The acting is so bad"

Well, yeah, okay, I always thought the acting wasn't half-bad, but who am I to judge *shrug*

I think the real reason why people like to wait T-dramas is because the stories tend to favour the underdogs. In the end, despite every tear-jerking misunderstanding or obstacle, the chubby, not-so-pretty girl WILL land the hot, intelligent guy of her dreams. Or the plain, gawky village girl transforms into an attractive, confident woman and lands the hot rich young CEO. And somehow along the way all the supporting cast members also manage to end up with their soulmates.

She might be chubby, but she's got a hot husband and a sequel deal yo!

It also helps that Taiwanese people seem to be really good at coming up with hugely romantic gestures and scenarios that makes every girl melt into teary puddles (and the inevitable "Oh my GOD, why doesn't my boyfriend ever do anything like that for me?")

Yes, the plots are overblown, far-fetched an unrealistic. But does anyone really want to watch a drama which is about the normal, the mundane and the drearily realistic?

In real life you do NOT find guys who dress like him, much less look like him. Or run gigantic, multi million dollar companies like him.

Every girl wants a bit of magic in her life, right? :)

You know it's Taiwanese when they use chicken costumes as part of a wedding proposal
